Bloc Québécois Leader Yves-François Blanchet (Beloeil-Chambly, Que.) released the following statement criticizing the Liberal government’s decision to abandon royalties on U.S. online platforms: “Once again, Mark Carney’s Liberals are bowing to Donald Trump and sacrificing the cultural sector, the very future of our French-language cinema and television. Another act of weakness. This time, they are breaking their own law and inviting online broadcasters to come and make money in Quebec and Canada without contributing in any way to the development of our culture and without even paying taxes in Canada. It’s a disgrace, and our creators will suffer the consequences for a long time. The government must reverse course and stand up for culture and its dissemination in French in Quebec.” Contact BQ.medias-info@parl.gc.ca
