Bill C-279, An Act to amend the Canadian Human Rights Act and the Criminal Code (gender identity and gender expression), was debated at second reading.
Bill C-15, Strengthening Military Justice in the Defence of Canada Act, continued to be debated at second reading.
The report of the Canadian Joint Delegation of the China Legislative Association and the Canada-Japan Inter-parliamentary Group respecting its participation at the 20th annual meeting at the of the Asian Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF), held in Tokyo, Japan, from Jan. 8-12, 2012, was presented.
The government tabled its responses to 32 petitions.
Green Party Leader Elizabeth May (Saanich-Gulf Islands, BC) introduced a Private Members Bill entitled, An Act to amend the Fish Inspection Act and the Consumer Packaging and Labelling Act (importation and labelling of shark). Bill C-417 was read a first time.
Bill S-4, Safer Railways Act, continued to be debated at second reading, was read a second time and was referred to the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities.
